Lead workplace health, safety and environmental initiatives while supporting safe and compliant project delivery across the region.

The Opportunity

A State Government Department is seeking an experienced WHS Advisor to join their team on a temporary basis. This role is responsible for leading workplace health, safety, and environmental (WHS&E) functions across the region, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and supporting the safe delivery of construction and maintenance programs.

Working closely with operational and management teams, you will provide expert advice, lead investigations, and drive continuous improvement across WHS systems and practices. About the Role

Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the development and delivery of WHS training programs and information sessions across the region
• Providing expert WHS&E advice to operational, supervisory, and management staff on legislation, compliance, and safety systems
• Managing and supporting the delivery of site audits and inspections across both internal and contractor works
• Leading incident and hazard investigations, including reporting and staff education on incident management processes
• Overseeing emergency planning and response activities across offices and depots
• Developing and implementing Safety Management Systems (SMS), risk assessments, and WHS management plans
• Monitoring and reporting on WHS performance, including KPI reporting to senior management
• Supporting injury management and rehabilitation processes
• Leading, mentoring, and managing the performance of the regional WHS team
• Supporting program managers to ensure safe delivery of works programs
• Promoting awareness and education on WHS matters, including hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead
• Reviewing and improving WHS and environmental management system procedures

About You

You are a confident and experienced WHS professional with strong leadership capability and a passion for driving safe work practices across complex operational environments.

You will bring:
• Demonstrated experience providing advice on WHS legislative compliance, including Codes of Practice and relevant standards
• Strong knowledge of construction and maintenance environments, including hazard identification and risk management strategies
• Proven experience developing and delivering WHS programs and continuous improvement initiatives
• Experience leading and managing teams in a complex and fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to influence, coach, and build safety capability across teams
• High level of organisational and problem-solving skills
• Understanding of the Queensland Government Leadership Competencies Framework (Team Leader stream) (highly regarded)
